What we do

When people or family members have a criminal record or are under investigation for a crime, they often face practical and personal problems. These can arise in lots of ways - with money, in work, about disclosure or to do with what others think.  People can be worried, confused, excluded and even discriminated against.  We help people understand and work through this, no matter what.  We give honest, non-judgmental and experienced insights to anyone who uses our information services or gets training, advice or support from us.

Why we do it

We know that people who have a criminal record or are being investigated for a crime face stigma.  We share insights about how that causes exclusion and discrimination of people in our society. Our vision is of a future society in which everyone is treated equally and no one’s future is defined by their past. We do this because everyone has the right to turn the page and live their next chapter – informed by their past, shaped in their present but hopeful for the future.

Who we work with

We work with people who have criminal convictions or who are under investigation for a crime - and their families - without judgement. We also work to make sure people know about what can happen when people are convicted or investigated so that the system can be changed to make it better and fairer for everyone.

Who we are

The vast majority of our team have our own lived experience of these challenges – and we always make sure that everything we do is always informed by people who have been through this before.  We put people’s lived experiences at the heart of everything we do.

Who supports us

We are grateful to all the support we get from others to enable us to do this work.  This comes in lots of different ways - practical, financial, professional and being critical friends.   We have benefited from funding support from a number of organisations and individuals.  Whoever you are - thank you!
